About Ava Art

As an artist, Kathy Skarvan is driven by eye appeal and attention to detail. She has a passion for people, gains energy from her environment and is inspired by the emotional reward she receives when others appreciate her work. As a medium to exhibit and sell her digital images, Kathy founded Ava Art in 2002. In the process of doing shows she realized that although some people are most interested in the image itself and the techniques used to capture it, the finished product as a unique piece of framed art intrigued many others.

She recognized then that there was a market for unique frame designs, but it wasn't until she worked with many customers, as a manager of a retail custom frame shop, that she discovered other needs that are not currently being addressed by conventional frame stores.

In 2004 Ava Art introduced a new offering to deal with those issues. Kathy was able to combine her passion for photography with her expertise in framing to create a custom framing business that makes custom framing available to photographers so they can provide a full-service offering to their clients.

Gretje's passion for people, the Arts and the human condition has fueled her photographic journey for more than 25 years. She has photographed hundreds of Canadian and U.S. artists and business executives, has been published in more than 50 international magazines, and has shown her work in one-woman exhibitions across Canada and the Eastern United States.
